Talbot Arms reveals its hidden secret

LOCAL historians would have been interested to see the name of a former shop revealed beneath the The Talbot Arms pub sign in Milngavie.

When workers temporarily took down the pub’s name boarding they found ‘Nimmo’s grocer and confectioner’ written at the far end.

It is separated from the adjacent Colpi’s ice cream shop by a close and it looks as if the bar, at some point in the past, took over Nimmo’s shop and extended its premises to gain another entrance.

The Milngavie and Bearsden Herald editorial team would love to hear from anyone who knows more about this Nimmo’s - perhaps there are members of the Nimmo family who still live locally?

Or does anyone remember something about the shop and the people who worked there? Please phone the editorial team on 0141 956 3533.
