Supermarket to unveil plans to transform town centre

WE have done all we can to create a masterplan for Bishopbriggs town centre.

That’s the message from supermarket giants Morrisons ahead of a public exhibition tomorrow (Wednesday).

Morrisons want to build a new state-of-the-art store, car park and a petrol station on the site of the former Bishopbriggs High School site.

The plans also include a community hub and civic space area, which East Dunbartonshire Council would create.

The complete development will cost around £25million.

However, there has been a mixed reaction among residents to the development.

Morrisons spoke exclusively to the Herald and said they have listed to residents.

Richard Bakes, development executive with the supermarket chain, said: “What we have tried to do is develop something that delivers for all, but perhaps does not satisfy everything.

“The supermarket is coming.

“We will listen to comments at the exhibition and there may be elements of the scheme that could be tweaked. What more can we do?

The exhibition takes place in Woodhill Evangelical Church, Wester Cleddens Road, Bishopbriggs, tomorrow (Wednesday) between 2.30pm and 8pm.
