Superfast broadband now a reality for 1,400 more homes

More than 1,400 homes and businesses in East Dunbartonshire can now receive high-speed fibre broadband thanks to the £410M Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband partnership.

The local homes and businesses – in Bearsden and Bishopbriggs – are among more than 150,000 across Scotland which can now access fibre broadband services at speeds of up to 80Mbps through the Digital Scotland rollout.

And even more will be able to connect in the months ahead as engineers from BT’s local network business, Openreach, press ahead with the roll-out across the country.

Fibre broadband enables multiple users in a home or business to access the internet, download and share large files at the same time and more quickly than ever before.

In order to receive fibre broadband, customers should contact their service provider. Local homes can also expect to find postcards landing on their doormats explaining how to sign up for fibre services.

Councillor Alan Moir, the council’s development and regeneration convener, said: “It’s great news for the area that superfast broadband coverage is starting to reach more residents and businesses in our communities. We recognise how important this infrastructure is to our local economy and the opportunities it can provide for the people who live and work here. We look forward to more businesses being able to take advantage of it.”
