Storm warning as temperatures expected to soar across Scotland

A Yellow weather warning for rain across the whole of Scotland on Tuesday has been issued by the Met Office, as high levels of humidity make thunderstorms likely.

Tuesday is also predicted to be Scotland’s hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures of 29C forecast.

According to the BBC website, thundery downpours are expected to affect parts of the country overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.

The Met Office has also warned of the risk of flash flooding.

Frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds could be additional hazards - and disruption to power is possible.

The Yellow “be aware” warning is in place from 5pm on Tuesday until 6pm on Wednesday.

The extent of the thunderstorms is uncertain, but some places could see over 30mm of rain in an hour, increasing the risk of surface water and spray on the roads.
