Sisters passed over for Junction home refurbishment

OUTRAGE is growing in a Clydesdale village over what many residents feel is the unfair way thousands of pounds worth of public money for home improvements has been shared out.

The Gazette reported last week how the programme to carry out external insulation work at Carstairs Junction had become what one angry resident claimed “a total lottery”.

Cash restraints have been blamed for the fact that not all of the 80 ‘Blackburn’-style 1950s houses in the village are receiving e heat-saving works.

But the way the 62 houses which WILL benefit are being chosen is leaving many villagers totally mystified and some downright furious.

One in that latter category is Anne McInnis who, with her sister Evelyn, has lived in their Blackburn house at the village’s 3 Park Avenue for exactly 20 years. They are puzzled and angry to find themselves the ONLY house in their street not to be getting the improvement works.

To add what Anne sees as insult to injury is the fact that, on Friday, the scaffolding to put on the insulation went up on their neighbour’s home – which is in the same block of two as theirs!
