Major work is underway this week to fix water mains to prevent further floods which have plagued businesses in the heart of Milngavie.

Scottish Water is carrying out improvements costing £65,000 to the water supply in the Stewart Street area.

A number of properties, mainly commercial premises, have been affected by bursts on a water main, disruption to normal water supplies and flooding in the street over the past few years.

Contractors Fastflow started work on Sunday, November 3 to install a new 120 metre-long stretch of plastic pipe to replace the existing cast-iron pipes.

Louise Marr, owner of nearby Lingerie Boutique, said: “We’re glad that they’re doing this work - it’s the right thing to do for the long term although it’s been a bit disruptive for our business while the work is carried out.

“They have kept us informed though and we appreciate that.”
