Safety fears over St Patrick’s Road construction
FEARS about safety rather than scenery have been added to the case being made against a new house being built in a beautyspot on the fringes of Lanark.
Last week the Gazette reported how a planning application to construct the home in the extensive grounds of an existing property on St Patrick’s Road was facing opposition from some nearby residents.
The main argument made by residents Peter and Jean Sanders was that the beautiful scenery of a site so prominent on the slopes leading down to the Clyde Valley might endanger nearby New Lanark’s status as a World Heritage Site, supposedly protected by a wide `buffer zone` around it in which further housing development is meant to be severely restricted.
