Scotland’s Russian Choir Russkaya Cappella’s next concert is going to be performed on Friday, December 6 at 7.30pm in St Joseph’s RC Church in Milngavie.
The programme has two components - music for Christmas, and music associated with the Romanov dynasty which ruled Russia for three centuries, beginning 400 years ago this year.
Russkaya Cappella is a chamber choir made up of people who enjoy singing Russian music. Most of their singers, though not all, are of British or Russian heritage but to them, nationality is unimportant. They sing music by composers famous and less so, as well as folk and church music.
The musical directors are Svetlana Zvereva and Stuart Campbell.
Stuart Campbell said: “As in most of our concerts, the audience will hear a mixture of folk music and music sung in church as well as secular compositions.
“On this occasion the composers include several who worked at the Imperial Court Chapel Choir (Bortnyansky, Lvov and Glinka) besides Tchaikovsky and Kastalsky.”
Young singers from the Children’s Singing Studio at Glasgow Russian School make a guest appearance in several items.
St Joseph’s RC Church is situated at 3 Buchanan Street, Milngavie G62 8DZ.
Tickets cost £10 (£8 concession) and are available at Milngavie Bookshop, and at the door.
The ticket price includes light refreshments served after the concert.
