Reunion at village high school

THIS summer will mark 10 years since the old Balfron High School closed its doors to pupils and staff for the very last time.

Carrol Rand, a former pupil of the school, has decided to organise a reunion of staff and pupils who were at the old Balfron High School building.

The evening will also raise money for charity - Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital and Strathcarron Hospice.

Carron said: “The old Balfron High School was a school that, by the end, was holding over double the pupils it was intended to hold, and where numbers of pupils were overtaking the numbers of classrooms and space in the corridors to such an extent that portacabins surrounded the main building and a ‘one way system’ was seriously enforced.

“The school may have been a little too full, but it was certainly full of plenty of atmosphere.”

“We thought it would be great to get our year group all back together.

“But there were many, many people – pupils, teachers and support staff alike – who enjoyed their days at the old Balfron High School and who have brilliant memories of their time there and so we thought why not get as many of them together as we can to share our memories.”

The ‘Bringing the Old Balfron High School Back Together’ event is on May 28, at the new Balfron High School.

Tickets are now on sale at £15 each and include a glass of bubbly on arrival, a finger buffet, a night of ceilidh dancing, and, of course, the chance to catch up with old friends.

This is an open invitation to all who attended or worked at the old Balfron High School so if you know any one who would did – please pass these details on.
