We’ve had a few calls from members of the public about a new metal bench that’s been installed in Hillfoot, Bearsden.
They have been asking why the council has put it there, that it’s a complete waste of money and why is it facing the petrol station?
Councillor Duncan Cumming said; “People can’t believe it and they have been asking me what are the council going to do next?
“They are telling me there was no consultation about this and they think it’s an absolute waste of money.”
One local person, who asked not to be named, said: “Who wants to sit and watch people putting petrol in their car? It’s stupid. What’s the point of it?”
Another person said: “Why didn’t they use the money to fill all the giant potholes in the area instead?”
Thomas Glen, Director of East Dunbartonshire Council’s Development and Regeneration, said: “The new bench was installed as part of the overall improvements in Hillfoot which aim to improve the area for those accessing local businesses and using the local transport links.
“Some drivers have experienced difficulty entering and leaving the garage, so this site was chosen for the bench to deter parking and improve safety and visibility for drivers using the garage.
“The works were externally funded by Sustrans.”
