The countdown is on for the General Election on May 7 when the country will go to the polls to select the next UK Government.
This week the Herald teams up with Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce to unveil plans for a business hustings meeting in the run-up to the election.
The hustings meeting will be held on Thursday, April 23.
It will run from noon-2pm, in McGregor House auditorium, at Southbank Business Park, in Kirkintilloch.
Chamber of Commerce member and local businessman Robert Wilson will chair the event and says it will be an ideal opportunity to put key questions to the candidates ahead of polling day.
Robert said: “We will be inviting all the General Election candidates standing in the East Dunbartonshire constituency to take part in the hustings meeting.
“Although it’s primarily for businesses anyone can come along on the day.
“We will also be inviting pupils from the local secondary schools to take part, and representatives from the various charities would also be more than welcome.”
He explained: “The hustings meeting will be held along the same lines as the ‘Question Time’ programme on TV.
“Each candidate will get a short time to put their position across and then it will be open to questions from those attending the event.
“But we would also like to get questions submitted before the hustings.”
Robert added: “We are looking for a good turnout. People can just drop in over their lunch break – even it’s just for a short time – and leave if they have to get back to work.”
Kirkintilloch Herald Series Editor Jim Holland said: “We’re delighted to support this event and would ask our readers to send in any questions they would like us to put to the candidates on their behalf.
“People can write to us or e-mail their questions to firstname.lastname@example.org and put ‘hustings question’ in the subject line.”
