YOUNGSTERS from the local primaries and secondary schools were among more than 250 pupils from across the district who were honoured for their achievements.

The special achievement awards ceremony, which is hosted annually by East Dunbartonshire Council, is now in its third year and has grown in popularity year on year.

The initiative is the brainchild of Councillor Una Walker who is the convener of the council’s education committee.

She said: “Throughout the last school year I was invited out to schools to meet pupils and hear every day about their wonderful achievements locally, nationally and even internationally.

“We have some of Scotland’s best performing schools in East Dunbartonshire, but these special awards were not restricted only to academic excellence.”

The achievements also covered areas including sport, the arts, enterprise and creativity to name but a few.

The awards were very successful and greeted with enthusiasm by both pupils and their parents.

Councillor Walker added: “It is right that we celebrate success and encourage our young people to continue to achieve their potential and be excellent ambassadors for their schools and for the area.”
