Milngavie Kate’s Holyrood bid

Local woman Kate Waddell has announced her intention to seek selection as the SNP candidate for Clydebank and Milngavie.

The constituency, which includes Bearsden North, has been represented by veteran MSP Gil Paterson, who has announced that he is standing down at next year’s elections.

Commenting on her reasons for standing, Kate said: ‘I’m passionate about independence for Scotland – it’s only with the ability to make all our own decisions that we can build the country that we all want Scotland to be.

“We know from the polls that confidence in the SNP is at an all time high, and with that, support for independence. I’ve thought long and hard, and I believe the best contribution I can make to growing that support is to be the MSP this area deserves.

“I know I have the skills, the experience and the determination to represent Clydebank and Milngavie effectively, to champion the constituency’s strengths, and to work tirelessly with our MPs and councillors to address its issues.”

Kate and her family have lived in Milngavie for over 25 years. Her background is in housing development, in the housing association sector.

She said: “I know what a lack of decent jobs, affordable housing or building standards mean to families, and now we have the additional problems as a result of Covid-19.

“I want to be part of delivering change that will improve people’s lives.”

Kate is a past member of Milngavie Community Council. When she has time,
she likes to relax by playing golf.
