Police said two men were inside the car and are appealing for witnesses.

Door-to-door enquiries are being carried out and officers are gathering CCTV images from in and around the area in an effort to locate the car.

Detective Sergeant David MacGregor said: “The motive for this incident is unclear and a man has been left seriously injured.

“I am appealing to local people in the area who may have seen a silver saloon car being driven erratically in the Kikintilloch area last night to get in touch. Your information could prove important to the inquiry.
