Police rescue baby deer after it is hit by a car in Milton of Campsie

Officers received a phone call from a concerned member of the public who spotted the baby deer lying in the middle of Antermony Road in Milton of Campsie around 1.30am this morning (Friday, December 15). It is believed the male fawn had been hit by a car.

Sergeant Barry Stokes, accompanied by Constables Gemma Dougherty and Colin Ritchie, all from Kirkintilloch police office, immediately headed out and picked up the young male deer who appeared to have a broken leg.

After feeding him some carrots - in keeping with the Christmas spirit – the Good Samaritan cops took the animal to Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre near Beith in Ayrshire where he is being cared for by staff.

Constable Charlene Miller at Kirkintilloch police office said this morning: “It’s such a good news story. We have just received a message from the wildlife centre. He is getting an x-ray to check the damage to his injured leg.

“We are all delighted he is going to be okay. He’s adorable.”
