Police need your help to find missing man

Police Scotland officers are appealing for members of the public to help them to find a man who has gone missing from his home in Loch Awe.

Sixty-nine year old David Alan Jones (known as Alan) left home at 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 22 to walk up to Cruachan Dam. Alan has done this walk on a number of occasions, however when he failed to return home, his family contacted police.

He is described as around 6 feet 1 inches tall, with a slim build, thinning brown hair and a white beard. He was wearing an orange ski jacket, grey/green trousers with black waterproof trousers on top. He normally wears glasses and is wearing a green tartan baseball cap with a leather peak.

Extensive enquiries have been undertaken to try and locate Mr Jones, including the use of the Force Helicopter and Mountain Rescue Teams, however attempts to trace him have so far proved unsuccessful.

Sergeant Gerry Welsh said: “Alan has made this journey a number of times, however he has always returned home. Given the inclement weather in this area recently we are extremely concerned and are keen to trace him to ensure he is all right. If anyone has seen Alan or has any knowledge as to his whereabouts then please do contact police as soon as possible. His family is very worried and just want him back home safe and well.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers in Oban on telephone number, 101.
