Officers are concerned for the wellbeing of Matthew Bowie who was last seen by a neighbour on the morning of either on Saturday, January 23 or Sunday, January 24, outside his home in Gleneagles Gardens.

He is known to frequent the canal path towards Cadder Road in Bishopbriggs.

Mr Bowie is described as active and fairly fit, around 5ft 8 inches in height, with a slim build and white/grey receding hair.

He is normally clean shaven and usually wears dark trousers, a shirt and a jumper. Unfortunately it’s not known what he was wearing when he was last seen.

Police officers at Kirkintilloch said extensive enquiries have been underway since Mr Bowie was reported missing to them yesterday (Tuesday, January 26).

The elderly man has never gone missing before and always contacts his family regularly, who are extremely worried about his wellbeing.

Officers have been checking areas which we know Mr Bowie tends to travel to, such as the canal path towards Cadder Road in Bishopbriggs, the café at Lambhill Stables and Cadder Church Hall in Kirkintilloch Road, Bishopbriggs.

Inspector Gerry Corrigan at Kirkintilloch said: “Given the recent bad weather over the past few days, we do have concerns for Mr Bowie’s well-being.

“I would ask members of the public to check their sheds, huts or any other outhouse buildings as Mr Bowie may have taken shelter within. “His family is understandably very concerned and just wants him home safe and well. If anyone has seen Mr Bowie or has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Kirkintilloch Police Office on 101.
