A petrol station with jet wash is going to be built in Asda Bearsden’s car park after the plans were approved at Tuesday night’s planning meeting.
The proposal was voted through despite 12 letters of objection being received from residents and a local business - Hillfoot Auto Supplies on Milngavie Road.
They argued that the plans would be out of character with the surrounding development, that it will result in a loss of amenity to nearby properties and it would have an adverse impact on the visual amenity of the area.
Other concerns included road safety, a lack of prior consultation with the public and opponents argued that substandard detail had been submitted as part of the application.
The plans includes a three metre high and 25 metre long acoustic fence to provide sound prevention from the service yard into the main Asda store warehouse.
Planners recommended that the application should be granted with conditions including use of the jet wash being limited from 8am to 10pm, construction work only between 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday, with no work on Sundays or bank holidays.
The application was passed with operating hours of the garage restricted to store opening times.
