Petrol price war in Bearsden as Asda opens forecourt

A petrol price war is about to break out in Bearsden.

Asda is due to open its new forecourt on Wednesday, promising to slash prices.

The multi-national says it will bring the cheapest petrol and diesel prices to the area.

Prices will open at 126.7 for unleaded and 132.7 for diesel.

However, popular local shop the Hillfoot Garage has hit back by asking its customers to stay loyal so that it can remain in business after 60 years.

Signs posted in the shop admit that it cannot compete with Asda in terms of pump prices, but point to the garage’s place in the Hillfoot community.

William Johnstone, store manager at Asda Bearsden, said: “It’s great news for drivers that an Asda forecourt has arrived in the town to bring the lowest price fuel to the people of Bearsden.

“We just want to help people save as much money as they can, whether it’s on their shopping or their petrol so we’re extremely pleased to see our new forecourt finally open and benefitting the community.”

No-one was available from the Hillfoot Garage for comment.
