Get set for Killearn’s virtual 10k trail race in June

Trail running enthusiasts of all abilities are being invited to take part in the Killearn 10k: 2021 virtual trail in spirit by going it alone on the day of the event, June 5.

A spokesperson for the race said: “We simply couldn’t bear the thought of cancelling for a second consecutive year, so that left us with one option – go virtual.

“It’s meant as a bit of fun for us all after a rotten 12 months, and we’re excited about it.

"It’ll be a different sort of Killearn 10k but that’s exciting too.”

This is how it will work. Runners can enter now for £15 via the EntryCentral website at entrycentral.com/k10k21.

They then need to choose a course to run their own race.

Organisers recommend trying to include a variety of terrain for that classic Killearn 10k feel.

Entrants need to run their 10k at some point between 00.01 and 23.59 on race day, then send in their time before noon on Sunday June 6.

Strava is the preferred method, and competitors can join the private Killearn 10k group at strava.com/clubs/k10k

Entries close on April 30 and all runners must be 16 or older on race day.

Places will be awarded in the usual categories:

Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd (female, male, non-binary)

Veteran 50, 60 and 70 (female, male, non-binary)

MU20 (female, male, non-binary). G63 (female, male, non-binary)

The spokesperson added: “There won’t be any prizes though.

"Given the events of the last year, the committee did not feel it appropriate to ask their usual supporters in the business community to give any donations.

"Every entrant will get a much-coveted Killearn 10k T-shirt, and the entry fee is lower than it would have been this year because some of the usual expenses, for example, chip timing, don’t apply.”

Organisers are urging entrants to follow all Covid restrictions in place at the time when planning and completing their 10k,

They are also being urged not to travel to Killearn to run.
