Dedicated Kirky children’s panel stalwart retires

Dedicated Allan Geekie of Kirkintilloch is stepping down after 18 years with the
Children’s Panel Service.

In an online celebration last week, Provost Alan Brown joined Allan’s friends and colleagues at East Dunbartonshire Area Support Team and Children’s Panel, to thank him for his hard work and commitment over his many years of voluntary
service.

Throughout his time with the AST, Allan has completed two terms as Area Convener, provided unwavering support to his colleagues and helped numerous local children and young people.

The Children’s Panel and Area Support Teams rely on around 2,500 specially trained volunteers, like Allan, from all walks of life, to
help protect the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people.

Allan is held in high regard by colleagues.

Lead panel member, Ian Hart, said: “Allan’s leadership as Area Support Team Convener has ensured that we all worked consistently as a team, not only within the Area Support Team, but with all the agencies we are involved with including East Dunbartonshire Council.

“Working with him has been a truly memorable
experience and all of the
volunteers greatly appreciate his influence, guidance and encouragement over the years.”

Provost Alan Brown said: “Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were unable to invite Allan to the council chambers to congratulate him in person.

“However, it was a privilege to join East Dunbartonshire AST’s online meeting on Tuesday evening to celebrate his outstanding service.

“I would like to thank him for all his hard work and to wish him all the very best for a long and happy retirement.”
