Cooking good for Bearsden Boys’ Brigade during coronavirus lockdown

Bearsden Boys’ Brigade
members are taking part in the movement’s new online programme of activities for children and young people to use at home with their
parents and carers.

Following Government advice issued last month on social distancing, all face to face Boys’ Brigade activities and events were suspended across Scotland.

Local Boys’ Brigade groups including 3rd Bearsden, 1st Bearsden and 1st/2nd Milngavie, however, have been determined their members can still take part in the Boys’ Brigade programme as much as possible,

Iain Macmillan, Captain of the 3rd Bearsden BB Company, said: “We are really missing our weekly face to face meetings. However, the “BBatHome” programme provides loads of fantastic activities for our members of all ages to enjoy at home with their families.

“We are also engaging with our members via our Facebook page and by holding virtual BB nights via video conferencing which allows us to keep a strong connection with our members and their families during these challenging times.”

Graham Sharp, Captain of 1st BB group, added: “It has been really inspiring to see our members continue to get involved in the BB programme from home.

“We’ve enjoyed seeing our members take part in a whole range of activities including making stop-motion videos, constructing bird feeders and even building monsters from recyclable items.

“Although it’s a bit different from our normal Company nights, our virtual meetings allow our members to see and socialise with their friends, which is important at a time like this.”

The Boys’ Brigade is making the new #BBatHome programme available across all its age groups and to non-members as well as existing members.

Weekly programmes are being created for the following age groups: Anchors (5 - 8 years), Juniors (8 – 11 years) and Company/Seniors (11+). The new resources are being published every Friday on The Boys’ Brigade’s website and via an email alert that parents can sign up for.

John Sharp, director for The BB in Scotland, added: “For a period of time, the Boys’ Brigade must work differently to how it has ever worked before in our 136 years. Whether online or – hopefully again soon – face-to-face, the BB will continue to provide young people with opportunities to learn, grow and discover.”
