LEAGUE tables show that local schools are amongst the best in the country.
Recently published figures reveal that four schools in the area are in the top 25 for pupils leaving with five of more Higher qualifications.
Amongst the state schools, Balfron High sits at number 16, with 29 per cent of pupils making that grade, Douglas Academy in Milngavie is at 18, with 28 per cent, Boclair Academy is at 21 with 27 per cent and Bearsden Academy is at 24, with 26 per cent.
In separate figures for private schools, the High School of Glasgow is third, with a massive 81 per cent hitting the target and Kelvinside Academy is 28th, with 45 per cent.
Overall, East Dunbartonshire comes second, behind East Renfrewshire, with an average of 23 per cent of pupils leaving with at least five Highers and Stirling is third, on 19 per cent - both well above the national average of 12 per cent.
Councillor Una Walker, education convener at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “I’m delighted with the SQA results for our secondary schools this year and would like to congratulate all pupils, teachers, schools support staff, parents and guardians for the valuable part they have all played in further improving standards of education in East Dunbartonshire for the third consecutive year.
“We are consistently achieving standards above the national average in almost all measures. Well done to our pupils for their fantastic achievements.”
