East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson is encouraging local social enterprises and their supporters to enter Scotland’s annual awards for innovation and development in the field.
Nominations are now open for social enterprises to demonstrate how they’re changing lives in our communities.
This year there are a total of 10 main award categories including specific awards that public sector bodies and charities may also apply for. The deadline is 10 August 2013.
Ms Swinson said: “Social enterprises do great work maximising the amount of social good they create while trying to achieve their financial goals.
“Earlier this week I spoke to a group at Social Enterprise UK’s summit where organisations shared their experiences and best practise in the sector.
“The spirit behind social enterprises cuts across all age groups, a number of local schools have taken part in Scotland’s Social Enterprise Academy.
“Pupils at Westerton Primary have been using social enterprise to spread the word about fair trade and hope to use their profits to expand into catering while Bishopbriggs Academy café uses its profits to support charity and the development of the business.”
