Around 180 jobs could be created when a new Waitrose supermarket opens in Milngavie over the coming months.
The new store, on the former West of Scotland Football Club site near the Burnbrae roundabout, is on track to open in the spring.
Once the steel frame is complete the roof will be added in late February followed by the wall cladding in March.
Paul Happell, project manager at Barr Construction, said: “We’d like to thank the local community for their patience during construction.
“Residents will soon be able to see their new Waitrose store taking shape.
“Barr has an extensive track record of creating high quality facilities for retailers and working with local sub-contractors where possible.”
Developers Town Centre Securities appointed Barr Construction as main contractors for the project, which will be the retailer’s seventh outlet and fourth new-build store in Scotland. The supermarket chain claims that it will bring secure, long-term employment for up to 180 local people, as well as delivering the investment West of Scotland FC needs to build a new state-of-the-art artificial, all-weather pitch on an area that is currently unused.
The supermarket was granted planning permission in 2013 subject to certain conditions, which included a financial contribution towards the A81 route corridor strategy.
Roundabout improvements and upgrades to the A81 will help to manage traffic flows while providing pedestrians with safe crossings and improved pavements.
