New toilet facilities at the start of the West Highland Way have just opened in time for the beginning of the busy walking season.
The new conveniences at the information centre on Douglas Street, Milngavie, replaced the dilapidated facilities in Mugdock Road, that were controversially closed last year after being managed by local traders for the previous three years. The information centre is managed by The Unique Company, but the toilet facility will be available to members of the public seven days a week, although there will be reduced hours on Sundays.
Facilities are also available at nearby Milngavie Town Hall and Milngavie Community Education Centre/Library, as well as a range of town centre businesses which welcome customers using their services.
Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development and regeneration, said: “I am pleased that work has been completed on the new facility within Milngavie Tourist Information Centre.
“The timing is apt as we are starting to see more and more walkers on the West Highland Way and efforts are continuing – with support from the Council – to boost Milngavie town centre.
“We looked at a range of solutions over a number of years and decided that the provision of a public toilet in the tourist office was the best solution.”
The council is currently looking at a number of options for the Mugdock Road toilets.
