The new £11.5 million primary school being built in Lenzie has been named Lenzie Meadow Primary following a poll of local families.

The school is part of East Dunbartonshire Council’s primary school improvement programme and is due to open in August next year.

The name for the new school which is being built on the site of Lenzie Moss Primary to replace it and Lenzie Primary, was picked following a consultation by the interim parent council with both school communities.

Other names in the running were Moss View PS, Silver Birch PS and Viewfield PS but Lenzie Meadow won out. Here are the results of the poll:

Lenzie Meadow PS 112 votes

Moss View PS 84 votes

Silver Birch PS 64 votes

Viewfield PS 32 votes

Members of the Council’s Education Committee recently approved the name and Committee Convener, Councillor Eric Gotts said: “This is a big step forward and more good news for the new school which, as we recently found out, is set to open in August 2016 ahead of schedule.

“The interim parent council did a great job running a consultation which brought the views of both schools together. It is a fine name for the school and an identity that everyone can get behind in the months ahead.”

Councillor Gotts met pupils from each school and local Councillors at the construction site of the new school to celebrate the latest milestone.
