Must do better

An East Dunbartonshire school has been criticised by inspectors for failing to grasp the controversial curriculum for excellence scheme.

Inspectors said curriculum development at Bearsden Primary needs to be addressed as a matter of “the highest priority”.

However, some parents have reacted angrily to negative reports in the media and claim schooling at the popular primary is generally good and improving.

Numerous positive points are recorded in the inspectors’ report, from progress in reading and writing skills to awareness of green issues, although in another black mark too few children are said to understand the importance of healthy food choices.

But the report acknowledges that parents are happy with the appointment of new head teacher Paul Meehan.
