Milton of Campsie locals rally around under-threat village pub

Punch Taverns, who own the Craigfoot Inn, in Milton of Campsie, have applied to East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board to seek permission for the change of use, with the Co-operative poised to move into the premises should the application be successful.

But local residents are begging councillors to give the plans the thumbs-down.

The ‘Say No To The Co’ campaigners are drafting letters of objection and have started a petition - which is availbale in the nearby village bakery.

A campaign spokesperson said: “The Craigfoot Inn has an important community function.

“It’s a family friendly venue within the village, providing a place for the community to come together. The Craigfoot Inn also attracts and welcomes tourists, walkers and cyclists, who stop for refreshments and a rest, as the pub is situated in East Dunbartonshire, which is a walkers welcome area.”

Other objections include that elderly residents rely on the pub for social interaction, that the village doesn’t need another food shop, and that it would cause propblems with traffic levels in the area.
