Milton of Campsie woman banned from having pets over cat cruelty conviction

Heather Campbell (44), from Milton of Campsie, pled guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to her Persian cat named Rosie by failing to provide earlier and necessary veterinary attention.

Following her court appearanceCampbell was banned from owning or keeping animals for a period of five years.

She was also fined a total of £450.

Commenting on the investigation and court case, Chief Inspector Hamish Mackintosh, said: “It was immediately clear that Rosie was in extremely poor condition.

“ She was lying huddled on a wet floor in the corner of the room and any movement appeared to be causing her discomfort.

“There was discharge seeping from both her eyes and a thick layer of hard, crusty puss had sealed them both shut.

“Rosie’s fur was also severely matted and was thick with faeces throughout, which was restricting her movement.

“We immediately took Rosie to a vets, where she was diagnosed with dermatitis of the skin around her eyes, swelling and inflammation of her corneas and conjunctivitis.

“She was also found to be close to emaciation, weighing 2.6kg when she should have been approximately 3.5 to 4kg.

“Campbell refused to sign Rosie over to the Scottish SPCA and allow us to find her a new home, so she has been in our care since February 2015 awaiting the outcome of this court case. We are very pleased that following this result she can now go to a loving new owner.

“We also welcome the five year ban given to Campbell and hope she will give serious consideration to her ability to care for any more pets in the future.”
