Leela’s story ‘Pavilion’ describes the contribution that Indian soldiers had made to the World Wars.

Already an accomplished author of three novels ‘Twice Born’, ‘Bombay Baby’ and ‘Boxed In’, Leela said: “I am honoured and humbled to be invited to write for such a worthwhile charity.

“Stories are mainly set in UK, but there are ones from Nigeria and Afghanistan. My story is about the Indian Sepoys who formed 20 per cent of the British Army in the two World Wars and 70,000 died fighting for our freedom.”

Every penny of author royalties will go to the work of War Child to support marginalised and vulnerable children and young people in conflict affected parts of the world.

Rob Williams, CEO of War Child UK, said: “These stories explore the powerful emotions released by conflict, and the difficult choices people make in desperate times.

“It’s a human approach to war writing which highlights the huge costs to families and children that war always brings.

“We are delighted that sales of the book will fund our work helping children to survive and recover from conflict.”
