A CHARITY shop boss has praised the people of Milngavie and Bearsden for their support.
Jan Williamson, manager at the Cancer Research UK shop in Milngavie, says the charity gets great support from the local community.
Jan was speaking following a visit to the shop by MP Jo Swinson.
The MP for East Dunbartonshire is supporting the Choose Charity Shops campaign and has joined forces with major UK charities including Cancer Research UK, British Red Cross, Barnardo’s, Oxfam and the British Heart Foundation – as well as hospices and smaller charities – in a drive to generate more donations.
Ms Swinson said: “Donating to charity shops is a good excuse to do a little spring cleaning and make sure your clothes don’t end up in landfill while supporting the important work of valuable local and national charities.
“You can boost the value of your donated clothes even further by filling out a simple Gift Aid form.
“I would encourage local residents to look in their closets and cupboards and find an item they don’t wear or use to donate to a great cause.”
Jan said: “We get great support from the local community and it was great to see Jo in our shop.
“The volunteers really enjoyed her visit and I think she has a good understanding of the way the shop works.”
Warren Alexander, Chief Executive of the Charity Retail Association, said: “Charity shops simply can’t survive without donations from the public, and we are delighted to have Jo Swinson supporting the campaign in East Dunbartonshire.”
