Maternity charter will help deliver better service

Women using maternity services in Glasgow will benefit from every greater care after NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde signed up to the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Caring for You Charter.

Glasgow is the first health board in Scotland to adopt the charter - launched in June - which will commit to working with the RCM’s health and safety representatives to improve midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers’ health, safety and wellbeing at work. They in turn will help provide even better care for women, babies and their families.

Evelyn Frame, Chief Midwife at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “Signing up to this Charter is very important to show commitment to improve RCM members’ health, safety and wellbeing at work so they are able to provide high quality maternity care for women and their families.

“I look forward to working with my RCM colleagues and all other members of the maternity team to develop an action plan around all areas of the charter to ultimately give even better care for women and their families.”

Ann O’Hara, the RCM Learning Representative at NHS Glasgow and Cyde, said: “As professionals we need to take ownership for making positive changes. The reality is nobody can do that but ourselves. Let’s be proactive and make better choices together.”
