Man charged after bus driver injured in shop crash at Kirkintilloch

A man has been charged by police after a bus ploughed into the front of a tanning salon at Kirkintilloch on Friday morning.

Police said this morning (Monday) a 61-year-old male motorist has been reported to the fiscal for allegedly opening his car door in a dangerous manner.

The single-decker McGill’s bus struck the car before crashing into a lamp post, leaving the road and ploughing into the Sun Shack salon at Townhead, at the junction with Freeland Place, Kirkintilloch.

The bus driver is recovering in hospital after the accident which happened around 7.45am but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson from McGill’s said on Friday his condition was “stable”.
