Lotto joy for local schools

THREE BearSDEN schools have come top of the class with the Big Lottery Fund who have awarded them over £22,000 for various projects.

Castlehill Primary School have been awarded £9,000 to improve their playground for pupils and the community.

The grant will fund a shelter with benches, a weather station, a noughts and crosses play panel, a ball chute, a flow wall, a bark path, and the removal of spoil.

St Andrew’s Primary School have received £10,000 to develop an unused section of the playground into an all-weather multi-sports area for the benefit of pupils and the local community.

This grant will fund resurfacing a grassed area with safety surfacing.

And Boclair Academy were awarded £3,662 to enable its S2 and S3 pupils to take part in the expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

This grant will fund tents, camping stoves, safety fuel bottles, a first aid kit, a storm shelter, emergency whistles, rucksacks, a compass pack, orienteering equipment, maps and transport costs.

Another recipient is Milngavie Pipe Band who receive £3,500 to continue teaching of their juvenile drummers.

The money will also help them continue to take part in competitions by funding travel costs
