ORGANISERS of the popular annual Westerton Gala Day have been awarded more than £1,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
The money will be used to encourage more people of all ages to get actively involved in trying out different forms of physical activity.
Some of the grant of £1,167 will be used to buy nets and up goals, cones and bibs for £298, and £500 for equipment hire including a ball cage and climbing wall.
Welcoming the news, Fiona McLeod MSP has written to congratulate Scott Ferguson of the Westerton Gala Day organizing committee on a successful application.
She said: “The grant from Big Lottery will benefit the whole of Westerton, and I am delighted Scott and the gala day committee have secured this significant funding.
“The gala is a real community event and brings people together in a fun and active way, so it is exciting that next year we will have a climbing wall, a ball cage and football games as well as professional coaching staff.
“Congratulations to everyone who must have put a lot of time and effort into the application – it’s a super achievement to have attained the grant.”
