It’s only a few weeks since the festive season ended, but a group of talented young

musicians are already gearing up for their Easter concert.

Bearsden and Milngavie Youth Orchestra (BMYO) hit the right note with the audience at their Christmas concert back in December - now the talented musicians are busy rehearsing for their next big date in March.

Looking back on the successful Christams concert, BMYO chairperson Kate O’Donnell said: “Approximately 100 members in four orchestra groups entertained family and friends with music that ranged from Abba through to the Phantom of the Opera and the Nutcracker Suite.

“A prominent performance on the night was given by the winner of our last concerto competition, Alvin Bucher, who played Mozart’s Horn Concerto with the symphony orchestra.”

Performances of Rudolph, Winter Wonderland and other Christmas songs set everyone up for the festive season at the event.

BMYO is a youth orchestra for young people aged eight to 18.

There are four groups - string orchestra, wind band, concert orchestra and symphony orchestra.

Rehearsals have now resumed on Thursdays, from 7pm to 8.30pm, in Douglas Academy, Milngavie.

They are always happy to accept new members in any section of the orchestra.
