This is the seventeenth year East Dunbartonshire has taken part in the Scotland-wide event, which aims to open up buildings for free that are normally closed to the public or usually have an entrance charge.

Events will take place in Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, Milngavie, Kirkintilloch and Lenzie. Highlights range from a family fun day at Bishopbriggs Library which will include a Victorian classroom with dressing up and games to the 21st century new build Douglas Academy in Milngavie.

There’s a guided history walk and talk along the River Allander in Milngavie and a Come and Play day of music-making at Kilmardinny Arts Centre with guests from the Bearsden and Milngavie Youth Orchestra (BMYO) and guitar students from the area culminating in a concert at 4pm.

There will also be a unique exhibition exploring the times of Thomas Muir through etchings by celebrated 18th century cartoonist John Kay at the Thomas Muir Coffee Shop in Bishopbriggs. The display forms part of a programme of events organised by the Friends of Thomas Muir, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Muir.

Or why not take part in a flashmob in Kirkintilloch that will visit three mystery locations in the town centre to travel back to a time when it stood as the north-western frontier of the vast Roman Empire? You’ll have to keep your wits about you, though, as the plans will only be revealed 24 hours before the event. For further information, visit wwwdigit2015.com or e-mail [email protected].
