A Bearsden hair salon has been taken over by the niece of the original owner who ran the business until 1958.

Janice Anderson now running the salon in Killermont which used to belong to her aunt, Elizabeth Miller.

Amazingly she will be looking after some of her aunt’s clients who still attend the salon.

In the early days Elizabeth (81) got up at 6am to light the fire in the salon. She also held a late night every Thursday when they’d all practise jive dancing.

Elizabeth sold the business to an Italian family who ran it for eight years then it was taken over by Irene Docherty, as Hair By Shapes, for 43 years.

Irene retired in March this year and Janice jumped at the chance to take over the business.

Elizabeth cut the ribbon at the opening on June 28.

Janice (57) said: “I always wanted this salon so I’m thrilled to be here now.

“It feels like home. I came here as a child and sat on my mum’s knee and now I’m running the business!”

If you have old pictures of the salon or history/stories please pop in to see Janice.
