Joe and Dorothy Tamburrini recently retired as owners of Mosshead General Stores after many years of serving Burnbrae residents.

In recognition of their 33 years of loyal service to the local community, and on behalf of the local residents, Burnbrae Residents’ Association committee recently organised a farewell reception and presentation to Joe and Dorothy in The Burnbrae pub.

The shop, known locally as Joe’s and based at Mosshead Road in Bearsden, has been a hub of the community for decades.

At the reception, Janice Kennedy (residents’ association president) and Victor Budas (vice-president) spoke warmly of the affection and high esteem in which Joe and Dorothy were held, not only by local residents, but also by many customers from further afield.

Mr Budas highlighted the fact that Dorothy’s filled rolls had an excellent reputation throughout Bearsden and Milngavie!

Ms Kennedy wished the couple a long and happy retirement.

Joe and Dorothy were then presented with several gifts after which Joe regaled the receptrion with tales of life as a shopkeeper since he took over the business in 1980.

He wished the new owners, the Welsh family, success with their new venture and hoped that the community would afford them the same support that he and Dorothy had received during their time in Mosshead Road.

The store, which would continue be known as Joe’s, would now be managed by Ciaran Welsh who said he is looking forward to meeting his new customers.
