A NEW initiative aimed at encouraging more young people into musical activities in the district is to be launched.
East Dunbartonshire’s Leisure and Culture Trust has been given funding from Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative to form a Youth Music Forum in East Dunbartonshire.
The forum will help existing music providers to access a range of resources and highlight the wealth of quality opportunities to support young people.
A series of events and professional development opportunities will also be offered to teachers, music tutors, music groups and young people and an external consultant will be appointed from August or September to coordinate this process.
Chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust, councillor Stewart MacDonald said: “This funding from Creative Scotland’s Young Music Initiative is a fantastic opportunity for us to support local music providers and enable them to work together to strategically map and plan the delivery of activities, particularly in areas where fewer opportunities are available.
“The forum will offer a platform for providers of youth music activities, schools, parents, volunteers and agencies working with young people and young people themselves to play an active role in the development of the youth music sector within East Dunbartonshire.”
