Hitting all the right notes to help cancer charity

Two of Glasgow's singing sensations - The Glasgow Rock Choir and The Glasgow Academy Senior Boys Ensemble, are set to put on a show stopping Christmas Concert in aid of Beatson Cancer Charity.

The pairing will see The Glasgow Rock Choir, which is the UK’s largest most contemporary choir, team up with one of Scotland’s oldest fully independent schools to produce some beautiful festive music for the charity’s third Christmas Concert. It takes place at the stunning City Halls in Glasgow on Sunday 11 December and the groups will be performing a variety of Christmas classics.

The Glasgow Rock Choir lead member Elaine Williamson said: “It’s fantastic to be part of Beatson Cancer Charity’s Christmas Concert again for the second year in a row. The guys had so much fun last year, so it’s an honour to be invited back to perform once again.

“Beatson Cancer Charity continuously goes above and beyond to help those affected by cancer and it is a charity that is so close to all of our hearts. Some members of our group have personally benefitted from the charity’s amazing care and support. It’s our pleasure to help awareness of all the hard work that the charity does to help people like you and me.”

Tim Mills, Director of Music at The Glasgow Academy, said: “The Senior Boys Ensemble are looking forward to giving something back to a charity that has influenced so many of their lives. As a school, we want to thank Beatson Cancer Charity for all the hard work that it does, many of our staff and pupils have had personal experiences with the charity over the last few years in some way.

“The boys have rigorously been rehearsing their performance for the concert and have even prepared some synchronised moves to encourage everyone to get up dancing! Though I don’t want to give too much away, but they will be singing ‘Can’t Wait for Christmas’ and have a couple of other popular numbers up their sleeves.”

David Welch, Chief Executive at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Christmas is a time to share with those closest to us and enjoy happy memories of times spent together. With a fantastic line up and a beautiful setting, our Christmas Concert is a celebration of the Christmas spirit to be enjoyed and shared with those closest to you at such a special time of the year. I am sure that everyone who comes along will really enjoy the concert and help to make this a very special Beatson event.”
