Heritage centre artefact plea

OBJECTS of curiosity and local interest are urgently needed to put on show at Milngavie Heritage Centre - in the former court room at the town hall.

The room has been fitted out with display cases but at the moment most of them are empty and the organisers are asking people to search their attics, cupboards and drawers for interesting local objects.

Neil Weir, chair of the centre, said: “People do not need to part with their precious things on a permanent basis. We are quite happy to take the items on loan. It will be appropriate to place the items on short-term display only.

“The Heritage Centre will be much more interesting if the displays are changed on a regular basis. Borrowed items will be kept in lockfast cabinets at all times.”

The Heritage Centre would like anything with a clear local connection, especially items related to shops, businesses, local churches, sport and leisure organisations as well as objects associated with Milngavie industries, such as papermaking, bleaching, laundering, mineral water manufacture, farming and textile printing.

Also, anything to do with road and rail transport or the waterworks and domestic bygones of the kind that would have been used in Milngavie
