A woman who was told she’d need to lose weight to receive fertility treatment aims to inspire others to get into shape by throwing herself into all forms of exercise.
Told by the NHS she’d need to drop from a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 33 to a healthier 30 to receive a referral for fertility treatment, Aussie-now-Milngavie resident Hayley Angell (32) seized the opportunity to approach weight loss in a different way.
And now she is on a quest to inspire woman and men of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels to get up, get out and have fun with fitness this winter.
Look Fabulous, Feel Fabulous which airs Sundays at 8pm on YouTube, follows her as she throws herself into a hilarious mix of mainstream and obscure sports and activities at leisure venues across the city.
The first full episode will be aired at 8pm on Sunday, November 20: https://youtu.be/i-Lg1Lp3VXI
She said: “I’ve been a curvy girl all my life and am the first to admit I’ve associated health and fitness with self-conscious gym visits and monotonous miles ran in the cold and dark. I’ve viewed weight loss as somehow ‘missing out’ or ‘giving up’ on the things I enjoy most.
“It’s time for an attitude shift and I’m determined to have more fun losing the weight than I did putting it on!
“If my bum and I can get up and get moving - all while laughing, learning new skills and meeting amazing new friends - then anyone can.”
She will try roller-skating at RollerStop’s first ever ‘Fitsco’, high octane trampoline fitness under the instruction of a British Trampolining Champion at Air Space East Kilbride, Krav Maga, a self-defence system created for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), and an epic six-hour full scale introductory climbing certification at Glasgow Climbing Centre.
Suzie Beith, manager of retro-fabulous skating haven RollerStop welcomed Hayley to try the centre’s new roller skating fitness programme, launching to the public later this month.
Ms Beith said: “We were thrilled to have Hayley join in our first ever Roller Fitsco! Everyone really seemed to enjoy the mix of roller disco and basic aerobics on eight wheels.”
Hayley’s first series features 12 activities across 12 weeks with sporadic weigh-in episodes to track her progress.
Hayley Angell is an Australian speaker, blogger and entertainer who settled in Glasgow in August 2015. After only a few weeks on YouTube her fun and friendly videos have amassed 2000 views.
