Handy guide to disability access is updated

The DisabledGo surveying team has been working closely with East Dunbartonshire Council to update and add new venues to its free online guide at www.disabledgo.com.

The guide has been available since 2011 and features in depth information to over 1000 places throughout the UK that disabled people and their carers, friends and family can access.

All sorts of places are included, such things as restaurants, shops, leisure centres, parks, theatres, libraries, museums, supermarkets and hotels to name a few.

Trained DisabledGo surveyors have been re-visiting many of the venues to ensure all the information is accurate and up to date, and have also added 25 new venues including Kilmardinny House Arts Centre, Lennoxtown Community Hub and The War Memorial Hall.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: “We embrace partnership working and are delighted to be working with Disabled Go again this year to produce this updated guide to facilities in East Dunbartonshire. The council is committed to advancing equality of opportunity for everyone in our communities.

“This guide provides a comprehensive reference point for those wishing to check access information before venturing out to enjoy our local landmarks, town centres and public spaces.

The information about East Dunbartonshire sits alongside information on over 125,000 different places spread all across the UK, making it a great tool for planning a trip too.

DisabledGo is a social enterprise working across the UK to tackle social isolation and inequality by providing better information. It was founded by wheelchair user Dr Gregory Burke in response to his frustration about the lack of information for disabled people trying to access new places.
