Girlguide’s world of experience

Sarah Farquhar, 22, a Leader of 1st Mearns Brownies, joined five other guides on a journey of a lifetime organised by the Galding Overseas arm of the guides.

Sarah, an occupational therapy graduate, spent two weeks in Cambodia where she helped train young people in leadership and confidence.

Sarah, who leads on indoor activities for girlguiding in East Renfrewshire, raised all the funds ahead of her trip by organising a coffee morning, bake sale and raffle as well as running a sponsored 10k obstacle race.

Sarah said: “Playing team building games and running relay races with the young members of the Cambodian guide association was a great experience.

“It was an amazing feeling making friends even if you cannot speak the same language – for me, creating connections like this is what guiding is all about.”

And now she has a taste for overseas travel, she wants to help more young people to find their own life-changing adventures.

“Going to Cambodia has fuelled my ambition to keep on creating brilliant chances for girls to travel and experience adventure through guiding.”
