Popular annual event - Westerton Gala Day - is being held on Saturday, September 5 this year.

Thanks to the help of 12 new committee members, planning for fun family day is well underway.

There will be plenty to keep the kids entertained all afternoon, including inflatables, archery, bubble football, a magician, Bricks 4 Kidz, crazy golf, and much more.

This year there’s a new fun science event which allows children to extract DNA from a fruit and store it in a necklace or bracelet, which they can decorate with beads.

There’s something for the adults too - they can treat themselves in the pamper area, browse the many stalls in the craft fair, or put their culinary skills to the test and enter the Great Gala Bake Off.

Once again, the Brownie Hut will be transformed into a tea room, while the bowling club will offer tasters and a bar open throughout the day.

The tennis club will also be providing lots of activities on court as well as a smoothie bar in the clubhouse.

One of the organisers, Kim Kilgour said: “For the first time, we have something for our four-legged friends. Bearsden Dog Training Club will have an agility course set up and for the more competitive amongst you, a faster-recall competition. So bring along your dog and let them join in the fun too.”

Before the gala even begins a one mile fun run takes place, starting from Wheatfield Road at 11.30pm – registration opens at 11am.

This will be followed by the Gala Parade, with the theme of ‘decorate a hat’. For more email
