The organisers of Westerton Gala Day are still appealing for former Gala Queens to get in touch with them.

They have won an ‘Awards for All’ grant of £1, 480 to help celebrate the area’s 100th birthday and the annual Westerton Gala Day will be one of the events that they will be holding to mark the centenary.

Gala Queens from over the years are being invited to lead this year’s parade on Saturday, September 7.

There will also be traditional games on the day, displays and music hall entertainment.

Scott Ferguson from the Gala Day Committee said; “It would be great to find out how many ex-Gala Queens still have contact with the area, so we’re asking everyone to think back, contact friends and family, and let us know who they remember being the Gala Queen in years gone by.

The lottery grant is a fantastic boost as it will help us with art workshops in the run up to Gala Day. We hope to unveil our community artwork on the day.”

Westerton Garden Suburb, which opened to residents in 1913, is Scotland’s only garden suburb. It started as a co-operative, aiming give working families access to affordable housing in pleasant surroundings.
