Westerton United football team wore odd socks when they played football recently for World Downs Syndrome Awareness Day.

Kevin Traynor, who has a Down’s Syndrome son called Ryan helps with the team coaching.

His wife, Laura said: “I was really grateful to the opposing teams, Erskine Boys Club and Dumbarton United, as they also took part by wearing odd socks!

“It was a great way to raise awareness, I was also delighted to see that the 2005s team and 2006s team also took part.

“It’s really important for Ryan to feel part of the community and he had great fun watching and then playing football with them. This also helped the other children understand that he enjoys the same things they do, but just needs a bit more time to do them.”
