Food waste roadshow to help people cut waste and save money

It’s part of the new food waste campaign from the Scottish Government, which is encouraging people to reduce the amount of food they waste, and start recycling what they can’t use.

As part of a six week national tour through every local authority in Scotland, the free interactive roadshow will bring food waste experts into the heart of communities to answer questions and give advice on the best ways to reduce your food waste, help the environment and save money at the same time.

Free meal planners, storage labels, and handy guides on how to shop smarter, will also be available to help everyone do their bit.

The roadshow will visit Asda in Bishopbriggs this Saturday (February 22) and Tesco in Milngavie on Sunday.

Cabinet Secretary for the Environment & Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead said: “If we used up all the food and drink we currently waste, it would cut carbon emissions that would be equal to taking one in four cars off Scotland’s roads.

“We all waste food without thinking, so we’re encouraging people throughout East Dunbartonshire to head down to the roadshow and learn about the few small changes they can make to cut food waste, save money and help our environment.

“As well as helping people to reduce food waste, the roadshow will show people how to recycle the food they can’t use, by using food waste collection services, or by composting at home where these services aren’t available. By reducing the amount of food that ends up in landfill, we’ll be cutting harmful greenhouse gases.”
